If you can get a pearl or an item valued at 100 gold (twenty to fifty might do), then you can aply the mercantile level-up method I see. Sell a high priced item to a merchant with whom you have a relates with you number of 100 (I suppose or so). You'll have it for sale. You will receive a good asking price. top it by one. Every sale to improve mercantile should include asking for one more gold than was offered.
Stay bartering. Whatever you sold, go buy it back but at one gold less than is the presented price.
This back and forth of even one item gains you two gold by the end of one round (sell-buy). You reduce the merchant's gold and should be earning points towards mercantile leveling-up.

Improving Mercantile skill seems to take a while as I go about it.But the idea is to buy in bulk or pricy items. The more involved, the more can be added to or taken off. Mercantile skill /ability is Personallity governed. If you would like to improve Personality consider spending time in shops and Mercantile as a top ten--Major, Minor.

the Start and a Look at the Place
You get released and placed on a ship. The ship lands and you get dropped off. You go through processing as on television, a person asks you questions for paperwork before letting you enter. When you make it out of the office building area you are informed play it as you will. It is all up to you now. But what do I do one might wonder. Wander around or pick things; you end-up in stuff. I have read that it is big. I have walked from one side to the other through various characters. There are differing regions. Things lie off the beaten path. The roads are more like paths. There is a map one can reference and posts at road intersections indicating which near-by place is in which direction.
Certain towns seem to have certain things. Some are bigger. Some are smaller. All have people with information. Some poeple are there with quests . As you do events you can effect your reputation. There's no hunger as far as I noticed, but you can eat. There is water you can swim for days in a single direction. You can guide yourself at night by the stars. Remember, the moon or planet you might see is a satelite and moves throughout the night. There is sick wind that can infect you and might have affected some inhabitants there. Some places are not touched by the sick wind.
There are creatures, characters, animals, and guards which might attack you on sight or sense. There are guards who will defend you. If you are moving along and start bleeding while hearing a screech, then you might be being attacked from the air. If you swim, then you might be attacked by either of at least two --a toothy fish, and a deformed person now resembling a crab.
Water, you can drown. Fall too far and you get hurt. Outrun attackers if you have the speed. Factors Fun and figuring things out.

Leaving Too Soon
Using the Buy/Sell tactic to improve the relationship, one can back out too far. Discontinue the concersation at all and when you return your relationship level is what your given ability is. This is done with a merchant whatever the wares. The lower the cost of the sold/bought item is the better. Also, this is time consuming.

Relationship 100%
When you buy and sell with a merchant and get your relationship to 100, use this to ask about All the topics on-which the person is knowledgeable. Person should disclose all in depth details they have and would tell their dearest sibling or friend.
Otherwise you do get information, but reserved. You start the game as you do but doing a favor and returning a ring gets you a better start with the merchant of the first town (village) in which you start as they are associates. Networking...

Merchant Skill and the Best Price
Having picked some herbal items from around the area I can go into a store or to a person with sell or or and buy option and get a best price. Using one value one itemsell it. Then buy it back. Then sell it then buy it back your selling is a positive successful transaction. Your buying is a positive successful transaction. That is two points of social rating you acquired. I like to have a percentage of one-hundred when addressing a merchant.
Some have items you might not want or need. Some have items you want or need at prices you neither want nor need. This is why I mention picking up a herbal item--free and low value. Low value matters in that buying back is possiblly at a difference. When I write difference it refers to I can sell a thirty-five value item for twenty-six to thirty-one gold depending on how the merchant and I relate, at least.

Thoughts on Morrowind Elder Scrolls III Xbox
The game actually indicates how you handle things here is up to you. Walk-around, run-around, play-ar...what? do you think this is a game? Well you might as it is in a way a game. Yet when you play a game you might take it as serious business.
There are skills and abilities. Some skills are extentions of abilities--Stealth counts as a product of Agility; a sword skill might be a product expressed from the ability of Strength.
Understanding game calculations seemed useful. I hope to make calculations given my understandings. Until then...
You were a prisioner. Being released you are taken to the world population. You state your name you choose and your Kind of being--this is similar to nationality--people of a region have traits of that region. Some are naturally good at speaking, some magic, some seeing at night, some breathing in water...Add to this the benefits of birth, like zodiac, a tendancy--born under a certain sign you might be more able to open locks, or have more endurance for magic use...
I realized that there were some things I could do to develop skills and therefore abilities, without paying the big gold for them. If I had a source of big gold I might use that some but it seems unlikely to have a significantly big enough gold supply.
